Feeds that feed
Last month, I mustered some courage to post on my (almost latent) social handle. Its called Instagram, and unless you are from another planet, chances are you’ve heard of it. It was a big deal. To start with, I didn’t quite understand the difference between a reel and a post. And I imagine there are more variants that I do not know yet. My teenager helped me put some snaps and videos together and decided that a POST was the way to go. My little influencer kept nudging me, go for it, Nanna. Just when I thought we were ready, a new challenge sprung up – linking an audio track to my post. Something that I didn’t have to contend with ever before.
Back in the day, Yahoo’s Email, IM and Groups helped with just about anything we ever needed. Video calling was an added bonus. In due course of time, I graduated from the schools of My Space, Orkut and Facebook. Facebook felt like home for many years.
After helping me find a track, and getting me to POST it, he posed a question that I didn’t see coming. You are a techie right? He had just finished explaining the difference between a reel, a post, a story, and yada yada yada… With a twinkle in his eye and raised brows, he smugly waited for a reply. Just that moment, I felt we should talk about HTTP POST, and why APIs were better than P2P integration. But it was too late, he had won the battle, for the moment. It was one of those mini-duels we have all the time.
Somehow, life took over and I fell behind on this newer, swankier virtual world. There seems to be a lot of ground to cover. Some years ago, I tried opening a post on my feed, and ended-up double-clicking and loving it! In spite of me! I didn’t quite know where my friends’ feeds ended, and where the random ones occupied my space and time. The feeds kept feeding, like the endless nuclear fission. What a bait!
For better or worse, I think I’m okay to not be a techie – the one that my teenager refers to!
